Moving along with posting these paintings, this is #22 of my 100painting project. And just to mix things up a bit, I am including a few still life studies. What I am learning from doing still life in oil is just how valuable drawing skills are to a painter. There is no fudging a solid foundation in drawing when tackling a still life in paint. Had I not spent these past few years concentrating on improving my observation and drawing skills, painting even a simple still life such as this would have been a much more difficult, if not impossible, task to pull off. If I were teaching painting I would tell my students, "Draw. And then draw some more."
This is just a beautiful painting. The pears glow and I love the reflection of the light, as well as the shadows. The texture of the cloth is really beautiful.. another gorgeous piece. nancy
ReplyDeleteAnn, thats a beautiful painting, I especially like the contrast between the pears and the background... The pears are very good, reminds me of nice sweet fall pears.

very nice painting Ann. You are certainly on your way with this 100 project. I commend you for that.
ReplyDeleteThis is just terrific! I am really amazed by your oil techniques, and this one really draws me to wanting to learn about oil paintings ^^ Grrrr... I am just so frustrated that it isn't the right time to do so yet.
ReplyDeleteThis is just beautiful - love the warm against the cool colors.
ReplyDeleteSuper pears. They are luscious looking.
ReplyDeleteAnn your pears are wonderful. Yum!
ReplyDeleteI have to agree with you on the importance of a good and solid foundation in drawing skills. Still lifes are not as forgiving as landscapes with their harder edges. I love these pears! The colors are gorgeous and so very realistic!
ReplyDeleteThis is amazing! So well done - looks like a MASTERS painting!
ReplyDeleteI have to agree with you on the draw, and then draw some more! So, so important. Your drawing skills have certainly paid dividends in this fabulous painting! I love everything about it!
ReplyDeleteThis is a wonderful painting of the pears. I really love your pencil drawings, to me it seems you have captured one of your drawings, in the form of a painting. The colours are really glowing.
ReplyDeleteGood enough to eat.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful color and shadows here, Ann. And I completely agree with you on the drawing skills. I've heard it is more important in watercolor because you can't correct as easily as you can in oil / acrylics, but I think drawing is a great skill no matter what your medium.
ReplyDeleteLovely Ann!
ReplyDeleteThese are awesome. Love the black background. The light and shadows are wonderful. You really did this one up right. Good work!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone!
ReplyDeleteSo good. I've been letting my drawing skills slide I think...Painting is just so much more fun and exciting!
