One Diced Tomato
One Diced Tomato

I spend a good deal of my time preparing meals, and every once in a while I pause to capture what I see when cooking in the kitchen. Sometimes it's the small stuff of our daily lives that I find the most beautiful.

sketchbook :: waiting
Last week we had plans for a sketch outing with friends at a local park. But then our plans changed. Then they changed again, so we were able to go after all. However, communication had broken down and our friends had changed their plans. But it was okay. I did this sketch anyway, watching a cloudy sky break up to blue, looking across the soccer field up to the hills beyond.

Jungle Road
Along Jungle Road
watercolor
7.5 x 9.5 inches
©Ann Thompson Nemcosky
This painting was begun a while back and I have just gotten around to finishing it. Another Edisto Island scene, from the popular Jungle Road. One of the things we love about Edisto is the Palm trees. Although it is not so terribly far from our home here in the NC mountains, the contrast in landscape and its features really makes us feel like we've escaped to a far away world.

sketchbook :: Edisto Island, SC, part II
While at Edisto we stopped in Kings Market for some fresh produce. To eat and of course, to sketch.
Lemons for our fresh grilled fish. Onions because they were so pretty. And peaches. Because who can resist peaches. This photo also shows our friend's latest bird house acquisition from Paul, the bird house seller on HWY 174 on Edisto Island. Paul makes the bird houses with reclaimed wood, and they are charming.
I did a few sketches in my 9 x 12 Kilimanjaro watercolor pad. This was the best of the lot, with my new sun hat, Gary's shell, and the birdhouse.
The palm trees surrounding our cottage were delightful.
So was sitting on that screened porch.
We didn't know what this wildflower was, but it fit nicely with an empty vinegar bottle for a quick watercolor study.
And the beach. We all loved walking that beach several times a day.
