from my lilac bush. Last year my lilac bush had no blooms. A springtime ice storm took away any chance for blossoms. This year it had an abundance of blossoms. I cut some for a vase inside but of course they immediately began to wilt. Just love that fragrance though. And I did try to capture this sprig in my sketch before they completely wilted.
Since my posts of late have been mostly monochromatic, this sketch done with Polychromos colored pencils seemed timely. This, and one for watercolor, are in my first Moleskine sketchbooks. Having heard that Moleskine sketchbooks were a nice surface for colored pencil sketches I was eager to try it out. I must say I am enamored with this new sketchbook and plan on doing many more colored pencil sketches in it. I seem to be getting quite a collection of sketchbooks here.
Very delicate and beautiful, befitting the subject matter!
ReplyDeleteI really like the shading on this. It is so soft and pretty and I swear I can smell lilacs.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!
ReplyDeleteColored pencils are fun in the Moleskine sketchbook. I like the feel of the pencils on the texture of the thick paper. My scanner picks up the yellow in the paper behind the colors, but I'm very happy with my originals.
You'll also enjoy the Moleskine watercolor book. The paper can take a bit of abuse (I erase a lot).
I like the way the paper takes color pencil as well. This is a very nice picture.
ReplyDeleteSo soft. So delicate. I love lilac and I love your rendering of lilac.
ReplyDeleteSimply gorgeous, nostalgic...awesome! :)
ReplyDeleteWow! Soft, beautiful, romantic- what a lovely mood you captured in this drawing. I absolutely love it. Thanks for sharing your materials with us too. It always is nice to see the medium and paper choices.
ReplyDeleteVery soft looking. Well done :) I love my little sketchbook for graphite, I should probably try CP next :)
ReplyDeleteLovely! The colored pencil looks beautiful on that paper. It has a vintage feel.
ReplyDeletewhat a lovely sketch....such delicate colors!
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone!
ReplyDeleteJenny - my scanner did the same thing and I had quite a struggle in photoshop trying to correct it. This image is close, but still more yellow in the colors than the original. Yes, I do like the original much better :)
I love the softness in this drawing. It is beautiful. Thanks for your opinion on the book, too, sounds worthwhile.
ReplyDeleteWow! Stunning drawing!
ReplyDeleteI love the soft, romantic feel of this drawing. I have the benefit of a neighbor's lilac tree that hangs over into our yard. There is nothing like that first day when the blossoms open and fill the yard with than lovely scent. This drawing brings that day back to me again. Thanks!
