Shellgraphite on Strathmore 500 Bristol
6.5 x 4.5 inches
©Ann Thompson Nemcosky This is a drawing I finished last week. It is the first in a series of still lifes I am planning to do in graphite. I also have ideas for colored pencil works that I am eager to get underway. All of this, of course, right when I am suddenly quite busy with free-lance work. Deadlines are looming. That is all good, especially to even have work these days, so I am not complaining. I only wonder why it is that when I have an abundance of ideas to explore with my art work that is exactly when I have a million other things that must be done.
beautiful with the many quiet tones of a shell...
ReplyDeleteSo soft and delicate...beautiful shading.
ReplyDeletebeautiful Ann...and write the ideas down...I know it's better when you can act on them right away, but think of it as letting the ideas percolate...:D
ReplyDeleteOh yes. Very nice!
ReplyDeleteVery nice tonal range. I look forward to seeing the rest of your series.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! Love the highlight areas.... the shell almost shimmers.

ReplyDeleteGosh, your drawings are so beautiful and so life like. Stunning.
ReplyDeleteGood one.The darker tones for banckground and lighter shades to the shell makes a good variation. And one of ur previous posts,Clementine was cool.

Awesome drawing! I do freelance work too and I understand how hard it is to get in some time for myself for my own creative peace of mind! Keep it up!

Beautiful drawing. You really captured that shell terrifically. As far as having ideas for when you are too busy for them, I think the universe likes to play games with us sometimes lol.
ReplyDeleteI think the reason you and many others have so many ideas when we have a million things demanding our attention has to do with a couple of things. 1. I think we escape into the world of art when our minds are pressured by deadlines, and we spend that time being thoroughly creative. And 2. (has to do with number 1) when we are pressured by a million things to do, we know we can't ever do what we want, so flights of fancy or escaping is a freedom to us and we just let down barriers. In other words, in minor ways we clear ourselves from our personal censor and just play in our heads and the result is both mental health and lots of new ideas to try. That's as specific as I can get in a quick note.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful values!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThis is really beautiful. I love the delicate shading on the shell and how it glows against the darker background. Stunning Ann.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much everyone for your encouraging comments!
ReplyDeleteRose - I have lists. In fact my lists have lists :)
Freebird - you may be right there!
Mary Timme - I never thought of it that way but I think you are on to something there. That makes so much sense.
This is beautiful, Ann. You must have so much patience to do this amazing delicate pencil work. I am just such a scribbler!
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful Ann! There's really nothing as beautiful and direct as a piece of well-done graphite work.
ReplyDeleteAnd shells are one of my favorite things!
I love this one! Gotta love a great graphite drawing.
ReplyDeleteThis shell has a sensuous shape. What a beautiful drawing.
