Number 15 of my 100 painting project. This painting was done from a photo that I took of our forsythia last spring, on April 7, when we had a spring snowfall. That is not so unusual up here in our mountains, we have even been known to have snow as late as May. Since we have already had record breaking snow fall amounts this year, I am really hoping we don't see snow again this April. Although it did show off the forsythia nicely.
I didn't look far enough back to see when you started your 100 paintings but hope you are able to work on them pretty consistently. It is a great exercise and takes discipline. I always challenge my students in workshops and classes to do so as the learning from doing so is unbelievable.
ReplyDeleteWe have not had much snow this year and for us that is unheard of so I am wondering if you folks have stolen it all. Please send any left over. Course we have up to July to get ours.
You're right - the snow showcased them perfectly! I love this painting. nancy
ReplyDeleteThe flowers blooming in the snow is definitely a sight, but you've captured that beauty and frozen it on your canvas. =)
ReplyDeleteSuch beautiful detail, Ann. Even though you painted this scene from a photo last year, seeing the yellow flowers give me hope that spring is soon on the way.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful painting, Ann! I love the touches of pink in the snow and that gorgeous forsythia bush takes center stage. Lovely!
ReplyDeleteGrowing up in Houston,TX, we were always told that it couldn't snow unless it hit 32 degrees, not even a half degree higher. I moved to Boise, it snowed in May and was in the 50s outside!! It blew my mind the first time! Wonderful painting!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing such a lovely painting. Nature paints such beautiful pictures and you have captured this one so artfully.
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful! Yes, I've seen snow before on forsythias. Not unusual at all. And you've caught it all here on canvas. :)
ReplyDeleteGary, thanks for your comments and stopping by to visit. I enjoyed looking through your work on your blog! I know I'll return often!
ReplyDeleteRaena, it can sometimes be quite cold here in spring and even summer too! Even though we are in the south we are also 3,400 ft up! We've lived here 20 years and can honestly say that we have had our furnace run at least once in every month of the year!
I do appreciate you all stopping by! Thanks everyone for your kind comments!
So cheery and they look lovely against the snow! I wish it would warm up enough here for it to be forsythia time.
ReplyDeleteHow lovely! The blossom that appears at this time of year is always welcome - and even more so this year when the winter seems so long... Over here, they say that the daffodils are to be three or four weeks late and that there will not be many about for Mother's Day on Sunday.
