Some paintings look perfect when I upload them to this blog and others just defy color correction. This is one of those defiant paintings. I calibrate my monitor every two weeks. I adjusted the color in Photoshop pretty darn close to the original. I checked my color profiles. It looks great on my screen. Then I uploaded the file here and presto, the colors are changed. You will just have to take my word for it that the yellows of the marsh grasses are a little yellower and the blue of the water in the foreground is less cyan than it appears here.
This is another view of the marshes from the Low Country of South Carolina, near Edisto Island. I know that I need to start blogging of these paintings more frequently, as I now have quite a backlog of work in this 100 painting project. But the weather has just been way too nice these days to stay indoors for long.
Now here's what you all stopped by for today. I put all of the names entered for my give-away in my Edisto Beach hat.
With a popsicle in one hand, and with much ceremony, Kiddo selected a name. . .
and the winner is Deni! Congratulations Deni! If you will email me your mailing info, to ann (at) bluebirdhill (dot) com, I will send the cards right off to you. Thank you to everyone that entered my little give-away. You all make blogging so much fun!
I LOVE the painting, Ann. Reminds me that I just need to get out there on a nice and find a nice little lake to enjoy - especially before the bugs hit us hard!
ReplyDeleteP. S. Your daughter is a cutie pie! Sigh...I remember when my girls were younger...and sweeter? LOL
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to Deni!! (But, I actually stopped by to see your work...always inspiring!)
ReplyDeleteWell it looks great to me!!! Clear cool water! And I love how it recedes. Beautiul! Very nice!
ReplyDelete.
I'm supposed to recalibrate my monitor? Wow. The things a person learns! I've never done that even once.

I have a running theory that what looks bad on one monitor looks great on another!!
ReplyDeleteThis painting looks great :)
Actually, this is one of my favorites!
ReplyDeleteWonderful spacial quality and clean, rich colors.
ReplyDeleteI WON!!! YEAH!! sent you an email with snailmail addy... THANK you!!! deni........;)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous painting! I bet the original is simply smashing! Your daughter is lovely! Perhaps she and my son (William age 12...didn't I read somewhere that she is 12 also?)should meet:)
ReplyDeleteAnother terrific painting.
ReplyDeleteColor correction can be such a pain - and the worst thing is that you can never know how it's going to look on somebody else's monitor!
ReplyDeleteAs for my monitor, the painting looks wonderful! It reminds of a great sunny day near the Carmel river estuary...
It looks lovely and peaceful, great job!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful painting. Makes one want to be there.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful painting, with a great peaceful feeling!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful smile on your daughter, she's a very lovely girl!
I'm sorry I missed the give away post... lucky Deni : ) !
Ellen, because I occasionally do graphic design work (book design) I installed a color calibrator on my computer, and it has helped keep what's on my screen look like what is printed. This painting was just one of those difficult ones. . .
ReplyDeleteThank you all for the kind comments about my painting and Kiddo! They grow up so darn fast!
Jennifer, she is 11, close enough to 12. But does your guy like to hang around with girls? Kiddo can be shy with boys, unless they are into her latest reading craze of the Olympians series! We should get together sometime though! We'll be wanting sketch outings soon!
COngratulations Deni, and awesome painting Ann!
ReplyDelete:) Kiddo does have a very sweet smile. I am sure boys fall head over heels for her
I love the color combination in this small painting! glad I hopped over to your blog:)
ReplyDeleteYay, Deni! You are so lucky.
ReplyDeleteMy son (age 9) is reading the Olympian series too! I'm reading it along with him, although I'm in Book 3 and he's read the entire series and starting back to re-read them again. Great books.
