. . .is the best dog. Laid back, only barks when necessary, like when someone comes to the door. He's always ready for a lap to lay his head in or a good game with his favorite toy, if you are willing. He can sit and stay on command and can even dive to retrieve a frisbee from under the surf. He really, really wants to be good and feels oh so terribly sorry when he isn't. Which doesn't happen very often anymore.
This one is "The Princess". What she lacks in size, she makes up for with attitude. Spunky and talkative, she will argue with the crows in the trees or anyone one else who dares to confront her. She doesn't do commands and almost always gets her way. And she always has the last word. Just like some people we know. But we love her anyway.
These are both watercolor sketches in my handmade sketchbook.
I love these guys! They're so sweet, and your handling of watercolor is great. I'm still trying to get the hang of it...too much of a control freak i guess:)
ReplyDeleteYou can tell you love these dogs from your paintings.:) I'm charmed by them.
ReplyDeletevery nice sketches and great write ups about them :)
ReplyDeleteWonderful paintings Ann - pets in action are really hard to capture.
ReplyDeleteGreat sketches!
ReplyDeleteThese are wonderful.she is such a cutie.your way with watercolor is fabulous.
ReplyDeleteWhat wonderful portraits of your beautiful furbabies! The Princess looks like she's part Corgi - it's a great pose! The Best Dog looks very much like our Abby (a springer spaniel). Ya just gotta love them to pieces! nancy
ReplyDeleteWow, Ann, these are amazing watercolors of your dogs...so expressive!
ReplyDeleteSketched with a Fur Mom's love :) These are wonderful!!
ReplyDeleteSammie and Princess are wonderful! My heart fills with joy.
ReplyDeleteI love your watercolor sketches of your babies and the stories that go along with them. I'm sorry though, my dog is the best dog! : )
ReplyDeleteIsn't it nice that so many of us have a "best dog"? We are so lucky to have dogs in our lives. They really are better beings than most humans.
They are so pretty! The drawings and the dogs themselves. You've captured them so well, and I think the media is perfect for such a drawing style =)
ReplyDeleteThe descriptions go so well with the beautiful sketches, full of love.
ReplyDeleteI love your paintings and your descriptions are wonderful! Animals are real characters aren't they? I keep trying to sketch my Irish Wolfhound but I can't get her right and wouldn't dare post anything that makes her look any less than the aristocrat she is!!
ReplyDeleteLovely write up along with an equally lovely water color, I specially loved the angles you chose are unique, a sort of abstract handling there!
ReplyDeleteYour words about your Springer are so true to the breed and you've captured him beautifully. The other dog? Her pose is so indicative of a happy dog, one who lives life to its fullest. I have dogs with similar personalities to your two Ann. Thanks so much for sharing your babies; they are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteLove your painting of the dogs and the colorful descriptions. Aren't our four legged friends a wonderful addition to our families?

I loved these paintings of your sweet dogs, your description of your Princess could have been written about my female rescued Golden Retriever, Emmi. Such a character and brings so much joy to our lives.
ReplyDeleteMore animal paintings would be more than welcome.
How wonderful that you have both personalities - the better to appreciate each one!
ReplyDeleteGreat work Ann, they look such lovely dogs.
ReplyDeleteYou have captured so much personality in these paintings! The descriptions that you have given of them match so perfectly with their poses! These are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI've fallen in love with your dog!
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone! We all do think a lot of our pets, and how wonderful for us that we do! Besides, they are fun to sketch.
ReplyDeleteADORABLE sketches! You did a fine job balancing the darks without them becoming a big gloppy mess (I speak from experience, LOL). I love Princess' pose!
