A quick sketch from last week that I did when I sat down to scribble a note in my sketch journal and spotted the laundry basket still waiting for its trip upstairs. For a household of only three it seems that most of our clothes, sheets and towels, most definitely towels, are in a constant state of transport by laundry hamper or basket. There's always laundry waiting to be done.
Other than laundry and a few sketches I have been mostly busy with home projects. I hope to get back to drawing soon. Maybe I'll take a few photos of my home fix-up projects for the next post. Just so you can see that I really haven't lounging around all summer.
The softness of the colors makes those towels look fresh, warm and inviting. Very nice.
ReplyDeleteGreat work on the texture of the towels......very rich looking.....are they Turkish or Egyptian?
ReplyDeleteGreat drawing - those towels look wonderfully soft! And it makes a lovely journal page!
ReplyDeleteI am sure we can all relate to doing laundry - did a load today and still have an older load to put away. I agree with a previous comment, it does make for a lovely journal page. Nice to see you have an attractive wicker basket and not a plastic one. :-) Lovely job depicting the wicker by the way. Oh and lounging is okay...just sketch the tree you are lying under and it's all good!
ReplyDeleteWow, can feel the fluffiness of the towels, well done!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous job on this basket and towels, Ann. I'm not sure why, but this reminds me so much of earlier years, such as when I was a kid. The oh so clean smells! The warmth from the dryer. And when my mom used to hang laundry out? Still...those smells! Just beautiful. I also remember my mom having an "ironing basket." First the basket had the clothes that needed ironing folded within. Then, when my mom was ready to iron, I remember her using a Tupperware glass with a sprinkle hole lid on it. She'd sprinkle water on the clothes that she was going to iron and then roll each piece so that it would stay damp for ironing. Of course, then there was the ever present can of spray starch...
ReplyDeleteA lovely soft sketch!
ReplyDelete2 of us in the house, and it seems like i am always doing laundry lol
ReplyDeletereally like the basket effect you have here, really well done :)
Your painting almost, but just almost makes me want to go pile up clean clothes in my laundry basket, lol. My basket is just a plain, ugly plastic one though so although tempted, I'll pass!
ReplyDeleteI love the way you have painted the basket - not a mark too many and so in keeping with the softness of the fabrics.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful sketch! I actually like doing laundry, I used to hate it, but it calms me down. =)
ReplyDeleteThanks all!
ReplyDeleteDeborah, actually they are organic cotton. But I bought them because of their softness and they were on sale!
Alex, I like doing laundry too. I used to buy Cheer detergent just because I thought clean clothes were a happy thing! Now I buy whatever is cheapest, but clean clothes still make me happy :-)
Who knew that such a lovely painting of such a humble subject could evoke such pleasant memories? nancy
