A quick update

Here is where I am on my current colored pencil piece. As I move into each new area I continually go back and rework some of the previous parts. As you can see I have just begun to block in the color of the wet sand. When I move into the sand/beach at the bottom portion I will likely be making more adjustments to the water. I find I need something there in terms of color and value in order to make decisions about all the other parts and to hopefully bring a sense of unity to the scene.

Getting an image to post of this piece continues to be a challenge for me. At 10.5 x 13.5 inches it is too big to fit on my scanner. So it's taking photos indoors, outdoors in the shade, waiting for the sun to come out and then outdoors in the sun. Making comparisons to choose the best image. Trying to adjust the most acceptable image in photoshop. I miss being able to use my scanner! I have come to the realization that if I am going to work this large I either need a larger scanner or a professional photographer. Hopefully, the next time I post I will have a better image of this piece to show you! If all goes well, that is. And the light is just perfect for photographing. And the planets are aligned just so. And I have more patience with the whole process.

  6. Well, however it's getting photographed, it looks gorgeous! Your colored pencil work seems to require amazing amounts of patience! But what results! Truly lovely Ann...even if it is unfinished!

  7. This is looking amazing, Ann. I tend to scan my images as well. I don't really pay that close of attention to how they look and just do the best I can with what I have. I do sometimes take photos as well, but only when they don't fit on the scanner. I never seem to follow the "rules" for that either. LOL

  8. Just beautiful, Ann. It takes me back to my beach vacation of just a few weeks ago.
I used to scan all of my drawings in order to post them online, but I found it so limiting because of the size constraints. I just take photos and do the best I can. The photos aren't always an exact representation of what you see in real life, but they're good enough. No need to stress over it. Your work looks beautiful from here!
Hey, thanks for checking out my work and my blog. The kind comments are appreciated!!!

  10. Looks great on my screen Ann! Love seeing the newest waves. Beautiful piece! My work is always too big for a scanner and cutting and pasting small scanned bits in Photoshop tends to make me curse in a most unladylike fashion, :-) i.e. I don't know what I am doing most of the time in Photoshop and I don't have the patience to stick it out. So I photograph. Outside, but not in direct bright light works best for me. If I take a pic inside, I tape my work to wall beside a window. Natural light is my friend, okay my art's friend, me, I look best by candlelight (and the candle shouldn't be too close). :-)

  11. Fantastic light, and the scene really looks "alive", if you see what I mean. Amazing work (as usual - I should be used to be amazed by you by now : )! )

  12. I'm just fascinated watching the development of this beautiful piece. The colors, texture, and movement are remarkable. Thanks for letting us watch as you bring it along. And, the photo looks lovely, but I'm sure it's nothing like seeing it in person. nancy
