More watercolor play. I am getting to the place where I feel I just might, maybe, have some control with this media. Just a bit, but not too much. There are still surprises. And oh, I do like that about painting with watercolor. The unexpected is what keeps me coming back to try again.
This is a view from somewhere along the Blue Ridge Parkway, from another old photograph. The photo could be as much as 20 years old. It is part reference, part memory, and for the most part inspiration for invention. I believe this to be from a view along the Tanawha trail. Hiking out of the woods, onto an open hill side, with an old apple orchard in view. Unexpected and delightful at the same time.
Oh, I love it. Arresting color, pleasing composition, spot-on atmospheric perspective, watercolor effects--everything I admire in a painting. You're mastering this medium beautifully. I can only hope to some day achieve what you've achieved here.
ReplyDeleteWonderful, Ann -
ReplyDeleteSuch great colors.
I can't wait for the next one.

I love the smallness of this painting! big is not better, and it's lovely to see the work of a person who gets that. thanks so much for this piece.
ReplyDeleteBreathtaking, Ann! I'm almost certain I have been in that exact spot! Lovely.
ReplyDeleteThis is really lovely - you are so good with colour!
ReplyDeleteAnn just love your colors. You certainly look to be gaining control of watercolor. It can be frustrating and magical all at the same time. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteShame this is an apple orchard the field colors make me imagine a big juicy peach.
ReplyDeleteIt's one of those pictures you want to walk into - I want to wander down there where the apples are and run through that sun drenched field!
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful! It has a dreamy quality that I often feel for real when I hike in the hills - I love it. You manage to obtain the same soft and subtle colors and lines with watercolor as you do with the pencils, it's awesome!
ReplyDeleteI think this is truly stunning, Ann. The colors are sensational and this is a piece that I would love to own. Dang the paydays that come too far and wide! LOL
ReplyDeleteLove the number of colors you were able to mix in the ridges! Beautiful painting.
ReplyDeleteLove this watercolour, Ann - makes me want to walk right into it.

ReplyDeleteBeautiful. I can't help but think this must be better than the photograph! It doesn't look like a perfect copy but a feeling of a place which is so much better than a frozen moment of real time.
ReplyDeleteAnn I just love your work. I know I will learn a lot from you and your lovely blog.
