What's on the drawing board

Here is an update on my latest colored pencil piece. This represents approximately 4 more hours, maybe 5, since I last posted. I know, I am terribly slow with these colored pencil drawings. But really, if I am completely honest with myself, that is one of the very reasons I enjoy doing them. As I am working from top to bottom in this piece, I am constantly revising as I go. So as a new area begins to develop, adjustments are made to previously drawn spaces, until finally, at the end, it all makes sense. Hopefully. I have just begun working on the foamy bits in the surf and already see that the wave needs more contrast. So it goes.

Summer has kept me occupied with so many things, especially lately, that my posting here has been a bit sporadic. We had a busy week with a houseful of guests that was loads of fun. Then my laptop wasn't playing nice with the internet and spent several days in a time out at the repair center. For these reasons I wasn't able to be online and missed posting and commenting. I do really appreciate all of your kind comments and feel my usual rhythm about to return any day now. Maybe.

  1. Summer does seem to fiddle with our usual rhythm of things and a wonky laptop doesn't help! Loving those colours on the top of the wave. Looking forward to the next update but no pressure, enjoy your summer! :-)

  2. This drawing is SO inviting - really wonderful. I hope you continue to enjoy having time to appreciate your own pace, which is of course perfect, and just as it should be :)

  3. Looking awesome, Ann. I figured you had guests by the last photo. That can be a nice little diversion too and gives one some time to regroup, yes?

  4. It's so beautiful! You have a very sensitive, expressive style with colored pencil that I find very refreshing and appealing! You made those waves seem like gentle loving arms reaching out to sooth and enfold the viewer... I know CP is a very slow medium, but the time you put into it really does show in the finished work, and that's what makes CP such a special medium. It really reflects the heart of the artist.

  6. I am in awe, as usual. Just beautiful. I spend a large amount of time on much that I do, even pages in a moleskine, so enjoy. It is the journey..
