Silent Sky

Silent Sky
oil on canvas

I love early mornings like this at the beach, with a brooding sky that's not yet ready to let go and become day. This is painting #36 of my 100 painting project.

  1. You have a very nice contrast between the dynamic water and the brooding sky. I particularly appreciate the sunrise reflected on the shore. I would love to try oil paints but I fear my family would move me outside to the garden shed.

  2. Ann,

This, like all your work, is beautiful. For a moment I thought it was a photograph printed on canvas.

  4. I remember you having something very similar in color pencils... I must say, they both are fantastic! I always like your approach to tackle the sky and the water =) They are just so refined and delicate.

  6. This is one instant mood soother for me, Ann. It is glorious and I could just look at it for hours. My favorite kind of beach scene!

  7. Love the colors - how the purple of the sky is reflected on the beach sand. The movement of the waves elegantly captured in the thicker paint strokes. Beautiful..peaceful..zzzzzz

  8. This is so well done! I love the colors, but what I'm most impressed with is how you've used them to create such depth. That horizon line looks at least a million miles away!

  10. Early morning on the beach is my favorite time too. So quiet, refreshing, allowing for reflection and just being. Your painting captures that.

  13. Thanks everyone!
Marie, these are with water mixable oils. No odor! The only way I could possibly paint in oil too.
