Something else must have been on my mind
I don't really know why exactly, but I decided to try this month's challenge over at Studio Atelier. With watercolor. I haven't really worked on a watercolor painting in this way before. Watercolor sketches, yes, where I just dip my brush into paint and go at it. And few attempts with watercolor pencil, where I planned out the painting and worked in stages until completion. But not straight up watercolor. With a plan, and masking fluid, and all of that. Although here I did only use a water brush, and worked with the 9 x 12 inch watercolor sketchbook in my lap, while sitting on the sofa, over the course of a couple of evenings. This isn't the most successful painting, but it was fun to do. I may try something like this again. And maybe even sit at a table and use regular watercolor brushes. It is a good challenge to mix things up every once in a while and try something new.
I am glad for your description. The painting is very colorful and nice. I have wanted to try something like this while sitting in my recliner but am afraid to as I am very messy. You are a brave lady!
ReplyDeleteI love the result! I mean sometimes it really pays to be spontaneous and just do what we feel like doing. This is definitely out of the ordinary, but I could still see the style and the colors your picked that defines the way you do art.
ReplyDeleteIt's very colorful, very happy and warm, and it has a little abstract art touch to it too. =) I just love it!
Lovely!
ReplyDeleteIt is a different style for you, but I think you've done great with it! My favorite part is the ripple in the water of the lower, furthest left lilypad. That ripple with the reflection in it is fabulous! It looks hard to do!
ReplyDeleteCertainly a very different attempt among of your works, a very successful one too! I love your choice of colors and the shapes competing with each other, specially the roots thrown in to give a feel of underwater. I havent seen this approach with this subject before and I am really impressed:-)
ReplyDeleteQuite honestly, Ann, I think this piece is a favorite of mine. But then I do so adore watercolors and your colors and blendings are just perfect here. I love it!
ReplyDeleteI love it! It makes me happy just looking at it : ) !! The colors are delightful, it's full of energy, and, it's really beautiful!
ReplyDeleteIt's different from your other works, but your sense of colors (that I love in all your works) is very recognisable - I like it when you let it explode like this ^^!
i love your watercolours and this one is no exception. The coloours are beautiful and the composition is really flowing.
ReplyDeleteI love the result! I think it's the color range and intensity that I like. And if sitting in the chair worked this well, why change?
ReplyDeleteSounds comfy!
I really love the colours of the painting, this would look neat printed on fabric... Just picture a white on white room with an accent chair in this...
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone - I appreciate your encouraging comments! I liked the abstract quality of the composition too, Alex, and yes, this printed on fabric would be really cool!
ReplyDeleteAnn- It's GORGEOUS! I truly love it.
ReplyDeleteI like the colors and the way you painted the lilies.
ReplyDeleteLovely
ReplyDeleteThis is wonderful!!
ReplyDelete.... and I adore the Koi Pond challenge idea as well!!
Just imagine if this were a formal painting and not a mere "playing around" sketch. This one is so beautiful and vibrant by itself even. I'd love to see you play more in watercolor!
