Sketchbook Tuesday - forsythia

It has really been an early spring this year, here in our mountains. Just like our daffodils, our forsythia bloomed a month earlier than in recent years. Not that I'm complaining. Oh no. And speaking of daffodils, if you have been thinking of participating in my daffodil challenge but haven't let me know yet, please go to this post and leave a comment with a link to your artwork by Friday. Saturday, the 31st, I'll do a post highlighting all of the daffodil art.

Sketchbook Tuesday - A little island time

As you probably guessed from my photo posted last Friday, we were at the beach last week.
And it was heavenly. Beautiful weather every day.
Walking the beach, exploring tide pools, playing in the surf, and counting pelicans on patrol, were top priority activities every day.
Of course we had to have locally fresh caught fish at least one night.
And shells. There are always plenty of shells to collect.

The Professor has posted some of his beach trip sketches too, here, if you'd like check them out.

Sketchbook Tuesday - blueberries

The muffins disappeared too quickly, otherwise I would have sketched one of those too.

Another Spring

Another watercolor from a view of a marsh at Edisto Island, South Carolina. I am enjoying the immediacy of these paintings. And having fun watching what the paint will do and how the colors interact. My references are my spring board, my jumping off place. After that, I try to let the painting tell me what it wants, and go with that.

Sketchbook Tuesday - daffodil challenge

Daffodils are quite a challenge for me to paint. I attempt sketching them every year, and every time I do it is a struggle. Getting the lights light enough, showing those darks and shadows without getting mud. They are so delicate in color, such happy flowers. I love seeing them popping up every spring. This year, because of our mild winter, our daffodils are blooming a full month earlier than they did the past two years. But yet again, they bloomed and then we had a snowfall. That does seem to happen every year!
**************************
Are the daffodils blooming where you are?  I would like to issue a daffodil challenge to anyone interested. Sketch, paint, or draw daffodils and leave a comment to this post with link to where we can see your artwork. At the end of this month, March 31st. or there about, I'll share all the links to everyone's daffodil inspired art in a post on this blog. Happy spring!

Spring Marsh

I am still enjoying watercolor painting, almost to the exclusion of anything else. But I'm okay with that. As winter is sliding into spring here in our mountains, I was inspired to paint a springtime scene from the Low Country marshes.
