splash and splatter

As you can see, I am still fascinated with painting the surf. The movement and color, a captured moment. Although with this one I tried a more subdued palette - is that possible for me? And I experimented with a bit of splatter, where I discovered that you can indeed splatter masking fluid, just don't expect to ever use that brush for anything else ever again. I have since picked up a couple of cheap toothbrushes for my splattering fun.

This makes me itch for the beach and to finally be able to put my feet in the water.

Beautiful piece, lots of brilliant movement in it and I love that splatter. I have worked with water colours for years and I hate to say this, but I have never used or tried the masking fluid...
How does it work?

Gorgeous, Ann! I love all the movement in the water - such lovely colors and tones. Makes me want to be right there, chair edged up to the swash zone, feet in the water!

Thank you Mari! I find masking fluid very difficult to use and control. If you haven't used it by now you may not need to. I am using it on these pieces to preserve the whites, so I can put in washes of color without the worry of losing those white foamy bits. If you do try it, just make sure you dedicate a brush for masking fluid only.

Thanks Diahn! So nice to see you here! I'd like to be right there too, but since I can't, I suppose painting it is the next best thing :-)

Such beautiful wave action, Ann! I don't seem to have a problem cleaning the masking fluid from brushes and one of my favorite pieces in one in wish I splattered masking fluid in such fine drops for a winter snowfall scene.

I am so impressed with the way you portray water and waves. I could study your pieces for hours, honestly. They are expressive and full of movement. You give that water a personality, that's really remarkable!

Ann - this is so beautiful...great idea about using the masking fluid...it certainly does ruin brushes though...sounds like a good idea with toothbrushes. Thanks for sharing.

Perfect sea again Ann....great effect. I might have to pick up some masking fluid and have a play myself. Thanks for the inspiration

Wow! Very nice surf and I want to try this with masking fluid when I get brave enough.
