When Winter Came

Winter came early this year, unpacked her bags, all of them, and settled into the best easy chair with her feet up on the footstool, took out her knitting, and keeps calling for refills of tea and more cookies please. It doesn't look like she has plans to go anywhere else anytime soon. She's the guest that has long overstayed her welcome but is too self absorbed to realize her hostess is oh so tired of dealing with her selfish demands. Sigh.

Painting #12 of my 100 painting project.

Oh yes, that's winter, alright! Methinks she comes from a large family - we seem to have one of her relatives here, too! Your post made me laugh, but your painting made me smile. It's very similar to the view from my studio window. Very nice, indeed! nancy

She surely has outstayed her welcome, but your lovely painting makes up for it. x

But she sure is giving you inspiration for some beautiful paintings, Ann! I think I want her life, I tell you. Love this painting. The deep and rich greens of the evergreen and the deepened because wet colors of the dead grasses just enhance that gorgeous snow! Hope all is well with Gary; he hasn't posted in awhile now.

I love the snow you drew...the shadows cast on the snow is simply majestic, and I think I'll always like snow, so if I do get to move to Colorado, it'd be perfect! The branches and trees at the background is wonderful too.
I could see that you're doing a lot of oil painting nowadays Ann, you're not doing color pencils anymore?

Thanks everyone for your kind comments!

Autumn Leaves - Gary is fine, just really busy with teaching duties this semester leaving little time for art.

Alex, thank you. You're moving to Colorado? Cool. I may do some colored pencil and/or graphite works occasionally but I have a special project going for 2010 that I posted about here

Thanks Ann for your encouragement. No I am not really moving to Colorado, but if there's a possibility at all, I'd like to move there for sure because it's such a beautiful place.

Gorgeous, Ann. If you add a little shiny Christmas ball on that tree, you could use it for a Christmas card. :) I love your commentary on this piece. That's exactly what this winter feels like and you said it so eloquently. So, you are a talented writer also. :)

You need to tell Winter in no uncertain terms that it is time to leave, or start paying for room and board. Better yet, tell her there is a sale at the Mall and then lock the doors when she leaves.

By the way, Winter is looking very beautiful here, despite her obstinence.
