Sketchbook Tuesday - snow and cookies

Here's a couple of drawings from my sketchbook that I did last week. We had a surprise snow storm last Tuesday that brought everything to a halt around here. While on a drive to town last Wednesday I snapped photos out the car window. (No, I wasn't driving.) I seemed to have this rule about only doing sketches from life in my handmade sketchbook. But when I realized that this is my sketchbook, after all, and that it can also be a opportunity to try out techniques and materials, I felt much better about using a photo like I did for this sketch above. This is a scene from our neighborhood during the early evening when the light was low, in watercolor, graphite and colored pencil.

However, cookies must be drawn from life, because then you get to eat your subject when the drawing is completed. This cookie was drawn with walnut brown colored pencil, also in my handmade sketchbook.

I love the colors you used in the snow scene - beautiful.
Walnut brown for the cookies :) so appropriate! I don't know if I could wait until I was finished with the sketch to eat my subject.

Both are just lovely. I'm with Patsy re: colors on snow. Hope you had a cookie to nibble on while drawing your subject :)

The cookie looks absolutely delicious! I am sure if my wife sees it, she'd devour the screen straightaway ^^
The drawing of the trees and the snow and the light blue sky... it's so nice and soothing. I love winter because of drawings like that Ann =)

I could pick that cookie up and eat it - lovely. I like the snow scene too - it manges to both soft and chilly - very well captured.

Ann, I so love your sketchbook paintings. Both of these are exquisite and I am now longing for the luscious smell of baking chocolate chips in the oven. And to eat a few myself!

What a gorgeous little painting of the snow! The colours are spot on for conveying the 'freshness' that new snow exudes. I am not explaining myself well- your picture explains it better!

Each drawing is a delight. Isn't it funny when we say to ourselves-this is my journal, I can do anything I want. And you can!

Both sketches are excellent. I especially like the colors in the snow painting, how the sky is reflected in the snow.

The snow scene is so beautiful! I love the way you positioned it on the pages too. Excellent job!

Now about that cookie...mmmmmmm.

lovely sketches - I especially like the snowscene and the way you have placed it in the centre of the two pages with white around it. I think that really shows it off.
And now, days later... both the cookie and the snow are gone but live on in memory due to your wonderful drawings

These are beautiful sketches - I especially love the 'stillness' of the snow scene.

This is a lovely snow picture... you have really captured the cold, still, quietness of the landscape. I can almost feel my nose chilling as I look at it!!

What a great way to make your sketchbook happy - a sketch from a photo AND from life. Such a serene scene.

And I see I'm going to have to fight everyone else for that cookie - it looks so delicious. You'll have to make more next time and invite us all over.
