Three Pears
oil on canvas

Last fall and winter I spent a good deal of time photographing items (mostly fruit) for future references for still life subjects. It's a matter of timing to get just the right kind of light coming in our back door that leads to the deck. And at that time of year the light passes quickly. I remember the day I was photographing these pears, and the Professor asking just how many pictures of pears was I going to take. I have a lot. You just never know when you might feel like painting pears.

Ann, This is stunning! It has the look of an old Dutch Master.
Your use of red and green is perfect! A stunning rendition.
These are just luscious. I love the way you handled the background with the dark on the right blending into the red on the left. The pears themselves just glow. It's stunning. nancy
It's a superb still life! The shine and light are amazingly rendered. Makes me want to touch : )! Beautiful colors, too - the ack ground works wonderfully.
Your reference photos must be great - it's not easy to get the right balance and light - I have a hard time finding (or making) photos that I want to draw.
It is indeed a beautiful painting. I would have them all eaten if I tried to paint fruit. You make even fruit sing.
Amazing!
Exquisite! Everything about it!
I like everything about this, the light, the colours. Lovely!
Beautiful backdrop for these juicy gems and I love the hints of red in the tabletop.
Beautiful highlights on this, Ann, and the dark background is so rich. I know what you mean about taking a bunch of photos. You could take 50 photos and only find one of them useful.
I love the lighting in this. What patience you must have, waiting for the light to be just right to take that photograph! This is so beautiful!
This is just beautiful. I'm going now to your blog to see all the other 27 of 100 paintings.
This is absolutely beautiful. The pears, complete with dents, the shadows, the composition excellent. I think that the background change of color also makes it very interesting and unique.
I was trying to zoom just to see if it's actually a photograph... not saying that I don't believe you can do something like that with your brush, but Ann this is out-of-this-world ultra-realistic piece of art!
Alright, I won't say much here, I'll keep zooming in and out just to admire the details ^^
Absolutely beautiful, and 3 is such an interesting subject.
Thanks so much all!
Wow, Ann!!!! This is amazing!
Oh I wish my pears came out like these pears. These are beautiful. I took photos of my pears too cause I wanted to eat them before they spoiled.
Absolutely incredible! The light, the colors, the background-perfection!
