Raven's Ridge
watercolor on 140lb Kilimanjaro cp

Another watercolor inspired by an old photo, taken on the Blue Ridge Parkway from the Raven's Ridge Overlook. One of my favorite Parkway views. I love it when you can see the cloud shadows on the mountains. I have to tell you though, that I am taking quite a few liberties with color interpretation from these photos, and really enjoying the process. However, I have no idea where I am going with these watercolors. They don't fit in with my current plans for colored pencil drawings. I just can't find a tidy category in which to place them in the whole scheme of my art. In a way, they are distant cousins to my oil paintings. Am I allowed to change media for my painting project? For now, I think I'll just allow the paintings to give me direction. I'm okay with that.

Oh for those days of color!! Beautiful painting Ann! I enjoy visiting your blog for little glimpses of home.:)
In the old days (or so I've read) Oil painters took their watercolors out in the field to do the studies that became large oil paintings in the studio. I LOVE your watercolors and hope you keep doing them.
Ann .vivid and beautiful color.it's full of energy.it makes me want to sit there and have some picnic.
I enjoy your watercolors very much. These colors are so rich and bright. Beautiful painting!
I love these beautiful colors and such a beautiful scene too! To my mind, certain planned pieces just feel right for oils, and others feel right for watercolors or pencils. I always go with my gut. My next piece will be an oil, even though I don't work in oil often. It just seems the right thing to do for the subject. All your work is beautiful, Ann, so I suspect any medium is the right way to go for you.
Such a beautiful drawing of a breathtaking view. It totally reminds me of scenes in Arizona(eventhough I've never been there but I've seen pictures of a friend who lives there now and it's awesome!)
Thanks for your comments Ann, and yeah ChunOn is the cuter boy in the family ^^
GORGEOUS colors, Ann!! This is superb!!!
Beautiful colours and I think you should just follow where your inspiration takes you no matter which media.
Really cool - so geometric. Love the colors! I remember driving on that road - breathtaking.
