Sketches on Monday

In an effort to simplify and find balance, I am going to try a different routine for a while and see how it fits. So I am moving my posting of sketches to Mondays. Here are a couple of recent sketches from my handmade summer sketchbook. Both of these were done with just watercolor, from life, no drawing first.
Kiddo has tennis lessons three mornings a week during the summer months. I sit in the car and wait. It has been unusually hot here this summer. Yet what we call "hot" up here in our mountains is not quite the same "hot" that many in the eastern US have been experiencing lately, so I won't complain too much.

I also have some really important news to share today. Our niece, Allison, is one of the top ten finalists to be the next "Face of Fox 43". She has worked very hard to be in the running. If you can, please click on this link and watch her video. Every time it's watched she gets another vote!

I'm awfully impressed with watercolor sketches from life with no outlines. I haven't quite figured out how to do that yet. I tend to get impatient. These are awfully well done - much volume and color.

Beautiful work! I admire your ability to paint from life. I, too, have been on a journey to simplify and find balance this summer. Keep working toward that goal. I think it's worth it!

Painting without lines is something I've only tried a couple of times and the results weren't very pleasing, not like yours. Lovely!

Oh, and I voted for your fabulous niece! Love her personality!

Great use of colors strong but yet very subtle with the background and the shadows.. =) Very calm looking and makes you want to appreciate it even more.

Watched the video of Allison, she's funny and creative ^^ Best of luck to her and I hope she wins!

With out a boundary line to work is like letting loose of yourself completely and do it with a free flow, your results are amazing.Doing it from real life has added that extra zing! All the best for your niece!

Love both of these paintings, Ann. The colors are just so gorgeous in the fruit. That you do these with no pencil work simply is awe-inspiring.

Allison made me laugh out loud with her video. She is a cutie; I hope she wins!

Ann, those peaches knocked my socks off! Fantabulous! I can't say enough good about that watercolor sketch! The color is amazing - so rich and brilliant. I like the trees, but the peaches... whoa! I will have to watch Allison's video later - can't at work.

Hey, Ann, what kind of paper did you use in this sketchbook?

Your niece is so darling! I would definitely watch her on Fox43 if it aired in my area. The answers to the questions on the video page were sooo funny. Lovely girl, very photogenic...the camera likes her.
