Painting surprises and memories

I am still working from really old photos as inspiration for watercolor painting. And really enjoying my new watercolor palette. It is fun to see what the colors will do and how they react with each other when mixing. I am loving all the new surprises of color. Oh, I know, I could make color mixing charts for each color combination, and I would know what to expect from this palette of color. But then I wouldn't be surprised with what happens on the painting. I am enjoying the surprises too much right now to be that analytical.

This view is from somewhere near the Blue Ridge Parkway. It was years ago that we were visiting friends in their new home way outside of town. Our host was eager to lead us on a walk on the extended property behind their home. We hiked through the woods where he seemed to be already acquainted with every tree. When we came upon a clearing at the edge of the woods I snapped a few photos. I was drawn to a stand of trees at the top of a distant hill. I remember him commenting that he also liked that view with the row of trees. I hope the trees are still there.

this is lovely. And the suprise of color is welcomed where here it is mud and shades of browns...A glimps of the spring around the corner.
Though right now at 18 degrees there seems to be a big corner!

What a lovely view that is. . . .I can see why you were drawn to it. I am so glad you chose it to paint! The painting came out beautifully!!!

A lovely ridge of trees indeed. As a viewer I am drawn to this hill and if I were there I would want to keep walking in order to wander amongst these trees. How lovely to have photos that bring back enjoyable memories and that can be used as inspiration for a painting!

I can see why the mixes and blends of colors are so exciting to see. They come through beautifully in this piece. I'd love to meander through that field!

I really love the layers of colors, and I do miss seeing blue and green if your work. =) It's kinda like seeing an old friend again whom you're just so familiar with. Beautiful work!

It looks so much like springtime! I don't tend to make charts. Even if I do, I forget to look at them again. Your way is more fun.
