sketchbook :: point of view

We had mostly rain every day last week with the exception of a few brief hours Thursday afternoon when it wasn't raining. So the Professor, Kiddo, and I headed up to the Blue Ridge Parkway to do a little sketching. We settled on a blanket on a soggy hillside where we could see the profile of Grandfather Mountain beyond Price Lake. Although we didn't linger long as the day was fading and more rain was on the way.

This was sketched with watercolor only in a 7.5 x 9.5 Strathmore mixed media sketchbook. The quote was already on the page from my reading of Mary Whyte's An Artist's Way of Seeing, a book I thoroughly enjoyed.

Such a beautiful palette and you've captured the awesome light that happens on rainy days and how it really makes the greens vibrate. Gorgeous painting, Ann!
