Turning

November

Lately the air has a touch of crispness and leaves are beginning to turn. Tomorrow marks the Autumn Equinox. Fall officially begins. This year the change of season finds me dragging my feet. I don't know why. Autumn has been my favorite time of year for as long as I remember. I enjoy the cooler days, bright blue skies and the explosion of color. Autumn festivals, apples and pumpkins, big pots of homemade soup and getting out the sweaters and warm comforters. It has always marked a time of beginning for me. The start of things.

Then there is November. November is much quieter and unassuming. A time for turning inward, indoors and bundling up against the chill. It wasn't until I began studying painting in college that I really paid attention to the colors of the seasons. November has all my favorite colors. Muted blue skies, ochres and russets to contrast purple branches and deep warm pines. This scene is from a photo I snapped while at a nearby farm last November. I have been meaning to do a drawing from this image ever since then. So I started it last weekend and finished up yesterday. Getting myself ready for the changes this turn of the seasons will bring.

It looks wonderful. I have always liked fall too. Why not this year? Is it the economy? The election? Do we just feel a bad winter coming on? And I have to laugh at myself for this one as I now live in Arizona but we do get cold and windy where I live but not like Minnesota or Illinois where I have lived also. I don't know but your picture looks so much nicer than I am feeling right now.

Ann, this is beautiful! Definitely says fall. The mountains in the distance add a nice touch to this lovely view.

This is just gorgeous! I found your blog via the VSD and have spent a happy half-hour looking through your posts.

I will be coming back!

Oh, and I agree, this Autumn (fall) does feel a bit strange, for us over in the UK I think it is because we have had a disappointing summer and besides the leaves are still too green just yet.

And, oh, why can't I just leave a short, consise comment in anyone's blogs?

Gorgeous work! I use CP some but nowhere near the way you do. You've got the touch for it.

Fall is my season. My birthday fall on the equinox in some years and it has always felt "right" to me.

Wow, so beautiful. I love the shadow from the tree across the grass. I am one of the few people who also loves November. The brilliant leaves and all the fuss is gone. What is left are these subtle quiet colors. I always talk up November and get the usual "are you crazy" looks. This year I will miss it for tropical Bali.

A stunning piece! Beautiful colours and lovely warmth.

I love October and November. I especially love November skies. Here the weather in November is often elemental, cold, wet and windy - ideal for interesting clouds and colours.
